Why an ordinary panel is a different category
An insect panel uses fabric, a frame and attachments to screen an open window. A solar panel adds exterior shading. Neither category establishes forced-entry resistance.
A removable or flexible panel can look intact without being designed to hold a person’s weight or resist intrusion. Appearance and a tougher-sounding material name are not test evidence.
Do not purchase ordinary mesh because a general article describes it as a first line of defense. Identify the protective requirement and use the appropriate product advice.
Look at the window and entry as different assemblies
Locks, glazing, operating hardware, frame condition and the surrounding opening are not all part of a mesh replacement. Clarify which service is actually needed.
A screen door that sticks may need rollers, track, hinges or adjustment. A heavy glass patio door has its own components and handling requirements.
If the opening has damage or an actual safety concern, state that when seeking an assessment. A quote for screening should not silently promise repairs outside its scope.
Understand the published door option
The operator lists custom security screen doors in its metal-door work. That offering concerns the whole selected door, locking arrangement and fixing to a suitable opening.
Ask which construction and documented performance are proposed. A security label does not establish a universal burglary, storm or impact guarantee.
Mesh for airflow or shade can be discussed within that door, but its solar-data sheet is not a protective test for the complete entry.
Do not combine unrelated protective purposes
CPSC’s window guidance warns that ordinary mesh is not child-fall protection. A security-door conversation does not settle the safety of an open upper-floor window.
A pet-resistant fabric is not containment. A stand-off screen frame described for golf-course exposure does not imply a storm rating or a guarantee against damage.
Treat each need separately. The correct question is what the proposed assembly is designed and documented to do, not which name sounds strongest.
What belongs in a practical quote
Record the intended application, opening, dimensions, material, frame, hardware, fixing and access. State what is included and what needs another assessment.
Confirm any current finish, model or coverage rather than borrowing it from another company’s product. Photographs help with layout, not unverified performance.
For ordinary insect screening, use the material-and-fit guide. For a custom metal doorway, use the separate security-door guide and discuss the complete entry.
Ask for category-specific evidence
If an estimate describes a protective result, ask whether its evidence concerns ordinary mesh, a complete tested assembly or another manufacturer’s example. Record the design, components and fixing actually being proposed. A product with a similar appearance is not proof of an equivalent configuration or test.
When documentation does not establish the requested purpose, keep the work described as its actual screening application or obtain the appropriate separate product advice. Ordinary fabric and frame repair can remain useful without being sold as a burglary deterrent. The relevant scope should identify the assembly, included work, access, limitations and written terms, rather than rely on a first-line-of-defense slogan or a protective inference from a photograph.

Questions before you decide.
Are insect screens a security system?
No protective performance is established for ordinary insect screening.
Can a metal door be assumed burglar-proof?
No. Review the complete selected construction, fixing and applicable documentation.
Does screen repair include a window lock or broken glass?
Not automatically. Those are separate components and scopes to identify.
