Distinguish the information being measured
Glass size, opening size and finished frame size are not automatically the same measurement. The selected assembly establishes what its ordering dimensions need to be.
An estimate can start with rough width and height, the number of panels and the project location. Do not convert those rough values directly into a fabrication order.
If a supplier or installer gives a procedure for the actual frame, follow it. A generic online diagram cannot establish every corner, overlap and clearance.
Look beyond a rectangular outline
Trim, shape, handles, operating parts and attachment points can alter how the screen fits. An arched or unusual opening needs its actual geometry assessed.
Measure and assess individual openings rather than copying a neighboring window. Small fitting differences can remain even when the windows look similar.
An existing frame being reused should be checked for distortion and sound corners. Its old outside dimensions do not prove it still seats correctly.
Define the mounting before the final size
Fixing method, frame depth, edge clearance and surrounding-surface condition influence the completed assembly. Establish them before manufacturing a replacement.
A deeper frame can change appearance and access. If an exposed-window application is discussed, its intended purpose and limitations require separate confirmation.
No protective rating is created by precise dimensions alone. Ordinary mesh is not fall, burglary or storm protection.
Include operating and maintenance clearance
A door needs the relevant track, hinge, threshold or guide arrangement assessed. Width and height do not settle how it moves through the opening.
A removable panel needs a safe detachment and refitting method. Glass-cleaning access and high openings can change what is practical.
Mention access restrictions early rather than discovering them after a panel is made. Any required surrounding-frame or other-trade work should be identified separately.
Confirm the complete ordering decision
The scope should identify the actual dimensions, selected material, frame, finish, fixing and installation work. Check which openings it includes.
Compare mesh samples for the room’s shade, light, view or insect-control needs after the appropriate assembly is established. Current availability is confirmed for the product.
Use the product guide and estimate request to start the conversation. Exact final sizes should be agreed through the applicable system’s measurement process, not guessed here.
Keep approximate and ordering dimensions distinct
Label the relevant openings and record rough sizes if known. Include shape, trim, whether it is a window or door, and anything that affects mounting or access. That describes scale; it is not a finished-frame dimension, a cutting list or permission to copy the next window’s size.
Final dimensions follow the actual system and fixing method. An unusual opening, handle, corner or attachment can change the procedure, so describe it before fabrication. Confirm the assembly and measurement approach with the installer rather than treating a plausible width and height as a universal instruction. This preserves useful initial information while avoiding premature material or manufacturing decisions.
- One label per opening
- Approximate dimensions only
- Shape and trim
- Operating or fixing clearance
- Access and refitting requirements
Apply it to your opening.
Compare the frame or system before final measurement for the product choices, fit, materials, and assessment relevant to this topic.
Installation and service are provided by Arizona Screen Techs. The written project scope confirms the exact product, access, and any applicable warranty.
Questions before you decide.
Is the glass width the ordering width?
Not automatically. The selected frame and mounting method establish the required final dimension.
Can I copy the next window’s measurement?
Assess each relevant opening; appearance alone does not prove an identical fit.
What dimensions do I need to request an estimate?
Approximate sizes are useful if known; they are not a prerequisite for starting the discussion.
